This spring, as a reward for four years of hard work, I bought myself Caribbean vacation. The Boyfriend and I spent a week in Puerto Rico and it was wonderful, as vacations should be. I didn’t have any deadlines or obligations, meetings or emails to reply to, and I kept my cell phone turned off day after day. Very different from the real world, vacation means beaches and bikinis, mindless afternoons of relaxation followed by free happy hour at the hotel bar.
What I am about to embark on is not a vacation.
For the next two weeks, I will be traveling across the United States. Starting in Albany, NY, I will train all the way to San Francisco, pick up my roommate and travel buddy, hop in a car, and drive all the way back. Here’s my route (Google Maps decided to give me a hard time… just zoom out a lot, I promise you it’s there):

Overall I’m incredibly excited for such a unique opportunity to see the U.S. I’m an East Coast girl who has never made it to the other side of the country. For me this trip is my chance to turn a string of “I’ve never” into “Let me tell you about the time that I did this…” For example, I’ve never:
- Been to Illinois, Michigan, California, Nevada, or Missouri
- Seen the Pacific Ocean
- Gone on such a long trip by myself
Additionally I’ll see family and friends I haven’t seen in months and, in one case, years. There will certainly be a lot of pictures and stories — stop back to see what I’ve been up to!
