Sundays was always a big work day for my mother, so we never had the big Sunday dinner that a lot of my friends had. But this Sunday, in honor of both her children being home, she cooked for my sister, my roommates, and myself. The roommates came over to enjoy my last night at my mother’s house. I loved the mini break I had at my mom’s. Not only did I get to spend some quality time with my mother and sister, but I enjoyed cable, a dishwasher, a washer and dryer, nice furniture, and no pet hair. Amazing!
While turkey and potatoes were cooking downstairs, I cleaned up the room where I’d been staying over Thanksgiving break. My mother just re-did it and it looks beautiful and homey.
Our childhood books and my sister’s art work give the room a cosy, artsy feel. Look at her painting of Ella Fitzgerald:
She’s so talented. Those particular genes skipped right over this sister….
I loved sleeping next to the books we used to read and have read to us when we were little. To me there is something so comforting about books. Most of mine are in boxes in my parents’ basement because we have no room in our apartment, but someday I’m going to have a place that’s big enough for shelves upon shelves of books.
I love this copy of Alice in Wonderland. Still my favorite book.
I lugged my suitcase and several loads of laundry downstairs to find a buffet waiting for us. Salad with homemade vinaigrette…
Don’s Family Recipe for Sweet Stuffing with ricotta, spinach, and raisins…
Candied yams…
And of course, turkey…
