Do you eat seasonally? Re-nest.com has a seasonality chart that tells you what foods are in season. It’s pretty expansive with separate categories for fruit, vegetables, herbs, fish, and certain meats and nuts.

I know it’s best to buy produce in season, but I don’t always know when certain foods are at their peak for freshness and taste. I printed this little chart and I’m going to hang it on my fridge. Realistically, eating seasonally is not something I can stick to regularly. This is due to the fact that I live in the Artic Circle northeast portion of the U.S. and I would end up eating icicles and pine needles if I didn’t buy at least some produce that was shipped from a tropic isle. But I think it’s a good goal to aim for and this brightly colored chart ought to inspire you a little, even in the bleak midwinter.

She’s spoken before the United Nations and countless politicians and diplomats. She’s a champion of the arts and art education. She’s publicly backing Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics. And she’s got killer biceps and a wardrobe unrivaled by a First Lady since Jackie O. Despite her impressive resume and busy schedule, Michelle Obama hasn’t forgotten about the littlest — and furriest — Americans. The First Lady is making an appearance on the debut episode of the 40th season of Sesame Street.

She’ll be talking to Sesame Street friends and monsters about gardening and the benefits of eating your greens. I’m still a little bitter about the whole Cookie Monster debacle, but I’ll probably tune in. Obama’s garden is the first at the White House since the World War II victory garden — now that’s pretty cool. The woman is making strides in terms of getting America healthy again, and what better way to make vegetables appealing to youngsters than to dress them up as Muppets.
